ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the use of diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI)for early detection of tumor response to Angiostatin-Endostatin(Statin-AE)fusion gene therapy in a rat C6 glioma model. Methods Fifty male wistar rats with C6 tumor cells implanted into the striatum were examined by a 3.0T MR scanner, then the rats beating tmors were divided into two groups, treatment group and control group.Rats in the treatment group received 107 plaque forming unit(pfu)recombinant herps simplex viral (R-HSV)mediated Statin-AE fusion gene therapy on day 7,and then the tumors were conformed on MRI.Conventional MR and DWI examination were acquired on 1,2,3 weeks after implantation with a 5-inch surface coil.Two(1 w),eight(2 w)and all the residual rats(3 w)of each group were sacrificed to perform the histopathological examination after each MBI examination.Pretreatment and post treatment tumor volulnes and apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)values were calculated.Rank sum test and t test were employed for statistical analysis. Results On MRI,43 rats demonstrated tumors on day 7 with a successful rate of 86%,On week 2,the tumor volumes of the controh and treatment group were 90.6 and 91.64 mm3,with no significant difference(Z=-0.14,P>0.05).On week 3,the tumor volumes of the controls and treatment group were 156.64 and 29.64 mm3,and a significant difference was observed(Z=-3.45,P<0.01).On week 2.the ADC values of the tumor centers of the treatment group and the control group were (1.20±0.25)×10-3 and(0.99±0.08)×10-3 mm2/s,and the values of the tumor peripheral parts of the two groups were(1.00±0.25)×10-3 and(0.83±0.12)×10-3mm2/s,the ADC values of both tumor centers and peripheral parts of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group (t=-0.82 and-0.46,P<0.05).On week 3,the ADC values of the tumor centers of the treatment group and the control group were(0.92±0.21)× 10-3 and(0.99±0.09)×10-3mm2/s,and the values of the tumor peripheral parts of the two groups were(0.81±0.19)×10-3 and(0.78±0.11)×10-3 mm2/a,there were no statisfical difference between the two groups(t=0.82,and-0.46,P<0.05).HE stained slices showed more prominent tumor interstifial edenla.swelling and death of tumor cells in the treated rats than the controls. Conclusions Combination of conventional MRI and DWI can be powerful to monitor tumor progression and therapy effecL Conventional MRI showed that the therapy slow the tumor progression in size while DWI demonstrated the tumor response even earlier than size change.DWI has potential use forthe detection of early response to antiangiogenic gene therapy.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the application of three-level storage pattern(on-line,near-line,off-line)to picture archiving and communication system(PACS),and to find a solution to the long-term storage of medical imaging data in PACS of the basic unites. Methods:To realize the on-line storage of medical imaging data by the redundant array of independent disk(RAID)of host-server;To realize the near-line storage of medical imaging data by the network attached storage(NAS);To realize the off-line storage of medical imaging data by the tape-drive.Results:The long-term storage of medical imaging data in PACS has been available in our hospital for one year since the three-level storage pattern used in PACS.It not only realizes the on-line access of enormous amount of medical imaging data, but also protects the imaging data's integrity when the on-line data damaged by human's activities or fire, etc. Conclusion:The application of three-level storage pattern in PACS,which is characterized as low expense, dependable performance, simple maintenance, can become perfect pattern in the basic Level hospital.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the use of the minimizing picture archiving and communication system (mini PACS) in practical work and to realize the advent of filmless radiology Methods A PC based ethernet was set up The medical imaging equipments including CT, MR, digital fluoroscopy, DSA, and a laser camera were combined with the ethernet, and the digital imaging network (DIN) was integrated with the medical diagnostic imaging system (MDIS) In this way, the radiology information system (RIS) was established Through one of the PC workstations with a double network card, this RIS was connected to the hospital information system (HIS) Results The mini PACS has been repeatedly used for more than 2 years The system in Radiology department has been established and improved With the present digital imaging system, such functions as the acquiring, storing, transmitting, printing, and browsing of digital images have been put into practice, all in accordance with the manners of the digital imaging communication in medicine 3 0 (DICOM 3 0) Digital imaging and diagnostic reports were managed through Microsoft Access database Images may be kept on line in different kinds of equipment for 3-6 months All images have been recorded on CD R disks, so as to be kept off line permanently So far, over 32 700 reports have been stored in the database From mini PACS HIS terminals images and diagnostic information may be acquired on a limited scale Conclusion mini PACS needs only a low cost of investment and operation Its maintenance is simple and its performance is efficient The main functions of the PACS can mostly be achieved There lies a bright prospect for its use in small and medium hospitals

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the application of the virtual private network(VPN) to picture archiving and communication system(PACS) for the remote access and management of PACS.Methods The client-ports(namely the remote computers) were connected to Internet by broadband such as ADSL,and the web server of PACS was connected to Internet by broadband router with VPN function so that the remote computers could access the web server of PACS remotely.By the VPN technology, the system administrators of PACS could diagnose and maintain the general malfunctions of the radiology's local network, and thus the remote management came true. Results The remote access and management of PACS had been available in our hospital for half a year since the application of the VPN technology in PACS.By more convenient medical services the work efficiency had been greatly improved. Conclusion The application of VPN technology to PACS,which is characterized by low expense, dependable performance, simple maintenance, can realize remote access and management of PACS.
